Emporia State University often referred to as Emporia State or ESU is a public university in Emporia, Kansas. Established in March 1863 as the Kansas State Normal School, Emporia State is the third-oldest public university in the state of Kansas. Emporia State is one of six public universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents.
The university offers degrees in more than 80 courses of study through four colleges and/or schools: the School of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Library and Information Management, and The Teachers College.
Emporia State's intercollegiate athletic teams are known as the Hornets, with the exception of the women's teams, which are known as the Lady Hornets. Emporia State competes in NCAA Division II and has been a member of the Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association since 1991. Since joining the NCAA Division II in 1991, the Lady Hornets basketball team is the only team to win an NCAA championship.
All international students admitted to Emporia State University are required to demonstrate English proficiency prior to taking academic courses. ESU defines English proficiency as meeting the minimum required English language ability to be exempt from the ESU Intensive English Program Placement Test. Australia, Belize, Canada except for Quebec, the Commonwealth Caribbean, Ghana, Ireland, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, United Kingdom England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the United States.
Having completed a degree Associate, Bachelor, or Master in the United States or one of the other countries listed above.
Having completed fours years of Cambridge International Examination curriculum and/or having completed two years of AS and/or A level CIE curriculum.
The chart below lists our English Placement Test exemption requirements. In order to be exempt, you must meet the overall and sub-score requirements. If your score meets the exemption requirement, your I20 will reflect admission into the academic program you applied to.
Home Sweet Home
With Abigail Morse Hall opening in February 1924 and Central Morse in August 1951, Hornets have been calling the Morse Complex home for almost 100 years! With major renovations and changes beginning summer 2019, residents for the 2018-2019 academic year will add a noteworthy chapter to Morse's rich history.
Life in the nest
Your new home offers a variety of activities throughout the year, including Fear Fest, Spring Fling and events on your floor. A Reception Center for you is located in Central Morse and provides services for you including sending and receiving your mail, handling your lockouts, and assisting with your maintenance concerns. Your new home is secured with a card-access system that only allows students living in the building to enter. Parking for you is located immediately north of Northeast Morse Hall.
